NELLY AND NADINE RECEIVE STOLPERSTEINE
The two brave women Nelly Mousset-Vos and Nadine Hwang will receive a “Stolpersteine” in Bruxelles and Madrid, respectively. Their remarkable life story is portrayed in the Magnus Gertten directed documentary Nelly & Nadine, which premiered at the Berlinale in 2022.
The Stolpersteine Foundation has decided to install plaques to commemorate the remarkable lives of Nelly Mousset-Vos and Nadine Hwang. They met at the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where they became a couple.
The Stolpersteine of Nelly Mousset-Vos will be placed outside her Bruxelles home in the Ixelles area the 5th of September. Nadine Hwang’s plaque will be installed outside her birthplace in Madrid at a later point.
The Stolpersteine initiative began as a symbolic art project in 1996, initiated by artist Gunter Demnig. It has since grown, and more than 95.000 handmade brass plaques have now been placed across Europe. They are installed in the pavement in front of a house where a victim of the Nazis lived. The word Stolpersteine means ”stumbling stones”.
The extraordinary life stories of Nelly Mousset-Vos and Nadine Hwang are told in the documentary Nelly & Nadine, directed by Magnus Gertten and produced by Ove Rishøj Jensen. The film has to this day been screened at over 130 international film festivals and received 25 awards.
