Long Distance Love awarded best documentary at the Hamptons International Film Festival in New York this weekend. 

Magnus Gertten and Elin Jönsson's film from Kyrgyzstan and Russia is celebrated by the festival jury of the Hamptons International Film Festival.

In their motivation for awarding Long Distance Love the jury states: "Some documentary filmmakers uncover great stories - while others, in  their approach, create great stories. The filmmakers use cinematic artistry in combination with a  refreshing purity of experience that we haven't seen in far too long  in documentaries - to open up a story that has global resonance."

Long Distance Love is a love story between two youngsters caught the modern world’s slavery and global injustice. 18-year old Alisher lives in the city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan, not far from the border to Uzbekistan. Alisher marries Dildora, 17, on a sweltering summer day. He’s in love, and for a brief moment in his life, he’s happy. But in order to help his parents and to build a life for himself and his young wife, he must go to Russia and try to find a job. He has to leave his pregnant wife and travel far – the distance between Osh and Moscow is 3500 kilometres. Will the long distance relation last? And will Alisher make it home to the birth of his first childd?
